I Never Saw Another Butterfly is a setting of poems written by Jewish children in Terezin, used as a ghetto by the Gestapo during World War II. A total of around 15,000 children under the age of 15 passed through Terezin. Of those, only about 100 survived. Each song expresses the thoughts, feelings, or concerns of the author.
The space left by a butterfly and the echo of its wings, merge with the Chet symbol (meaning ‘Life’) in this poignant wrap around design illustrating the loss of freedom and childhood by Jewish children in World War II.
